突然有一天他看到外婆留給她媽媽的禮物箱，上面坐著(zhù)一個(gè)小精靈還打算捉弄他，還過(guò)分的欺騙了他。結果被變成了一個(gè)小人，還受到了家里動(dòng)物們的欺負和教訓。但這一切都是他咎由自取。后來(lái)的隨著(zhù)大雄鵝開(kāi)始了一場(chǎng)翻山過(guò)海的奇妙旅行。故事就此開(kāi)始了。
突然有一天，命運多舛的尼爾斯又被一群烏鴉給抓住了，結果一只經(jīng)常被嘲笑的烏鴉鈍鈍奮不顧身的去救下了尼爾斯，于是鈍鈍就被討厭的烏鴉群抓起來(lái)了。尼爾斯也不顧一切地救下了鉗鈍。鈍鈍和尼爾斯道謝之后，尼爾斯又繼續開(kāi)始了自己的旅程。
不久后尼爾斯他們一個(gè)老鷹巢穴，只見(jiàn)里面躺著(zhù)一只可愛(ài)的小雛鷹，叫做高爾果。大家都很喜歡它。可是糟糕的是這只小雛鷹竟然被可惡的動(dòng)物園抓走了。尼爾斯和大雁群還有大雄鵝一起，想方設法地進(jìn)入動(dòng)物園。把小雛鷹解救了出來(lái)。
長(cháng)期的旅途，讓他不禁有些想念父母，想念自己的家。他想回家了。正在他猶豫沮喪的時(shí)候，他無(wú)意間聽(tīng)到了兩頭貓頭鷹的對話(huà)。得知，只要自己安全的把大雄鵝送回家之后一切就可以恢復原樣。
不知過(guò)了多久，經(jīng)歷了多少冒險故事，這一天終于到來(lái)了。大雁首領(lǐng)阿卡帶著(zhù)大雁群，尼爾斯，大雄鵝回到了家中。他開(kāi)心極了。可他的父母卻不之情地把他的朋友們都抓了起來(lái)。可正當，尼爾斯打算救他們的時(shí)候突然發(fā)現自己聽(tīng)不懂動(dòng)物們的語(yǔ)言了。他把自己的經(jīng)歷講給父母聽(tīng)之后，父母便把大雁們給放了。尼爾斯意識到自己變成人了。
從此之后，尼爾斯變成了一個(gè)善良 ，勤勞，可愛(ài)的小男孩了。
